BSM scored twice into an empty net to secure a Metro West Conference win over St. Louis Park

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Junior Podein scored two second-period goals, including his fifth game-winner of the season, as sixth-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's overcame an early deficit to post a 4-1 Metro West Conference win over St. Louis Park.

Despite being out-shot, 13-2, in the opening frame, the Orioles scored the only goal in the game's first 17 minutes and SLP goalie held their guests off the scored for nearly 22 minutes before Podein struck for his seventh goal of the season.

Podein added his eighth of the season with just eight seconds remaining in the middle stanza, which would eventually be his fith game-winning goal of the season.

Brett Middleton turned in a heroic, 34-save effort on 36 shots on goal. It was when he was off the ice that the Red Knights struck for their last two goals as Caleb Koskie and Mason Stenger both scored empty-net goals in the game's final 90 seconds.

BSM held a 38-13 advantage in shots on goal. After giving up a goal on the first shot he faced, Mason McElroy stopped SLP's remaining 12 shots.

The Red Knights will face 14th-ranked Eden Prairie, Thursday, in their next action. Opening faceoff at the Eden Prairie Community Center is slated for 7 p.m.

Mason Stenger had points on three of BSM's four goals and took over the team scoring lead with 15 points.
