Popehn helps power BSM to win over Holy Angels
After scoreless first, Red Knights roll to 5-1 victory over Stars.
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- After a scoreless first period, Benilde-St. Margaret's scored three times in the second period and added a pair in the third period, collecting a 5-1 win over Holy Angels.
Unlike the teams' 3-3 tie on Dec. 29, the Red Knights had to come from behind with Ben Norris' third-period game enabled BSM to earn the draw.
Saturday afternoon's matinee saw the hosts take the lead on a Mason Stenger goal and Dylan Popehn followed with a pair of goals to give his team a 3-0 lead heading into the final stanza.
The Stars' opened the third period by cutting the lead to two goals, which A.j. Ulrich and Cam Kirschner scoring a goal apiece to finish the four-goal win.
The hosts had a commanding 40-17 advange in shots on goal, with Mason McElroy stopping 16 of 17 shots to backstop the victory.
BSM returns to Metro West Conference action when it hosts Bloomington Jefferson in a game scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Brn Norris grabbed a share of the team lead in scoring with his 23rd and 24th points of the season.
