Westan Quirk gets rally going in 5-1 win over Armstrong/Cooper.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- After a slow start through the game's first 12 minutes, fourth-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's potted three goals in four minutes, and the Red Knights tallied five goals to advance to Saturday's Section 6AA semifinals with a 5-1 win over Armstrong/Cooper.

BSM's first goal came when Junior Podein's pass off the left side to Westan Quirk, who was speeding up the middle. Quirk cross the blue line, split the Wings' defenseman and found the back of the net when he beat goalie Ryan Melsha to the glove side with four minutes, 51 seconds to play in the opening frame.

It took just 21 seconds for the hosts to score again as Ben Norris broke into the Wings' zone on the right side, beat a defenseman around the corner and he went deep into the zone before finding Caleb Koskie coming down the slot and, from there, Koskie buried the puck for his 16th goal of the season.

The three-goal rally was capped off by Mason Minor, who's shot from the left point with 52 seconds to play in the period found it's way through traffic for his seventh goal of the season.

Although they out-shot their guests, 15-4, the Red Knights saw their lead reduced to two goals by the end of the period as the Wings' Tanner Rausch forced a neutral zone turnover and scored an unassisted goal for their lone goal.

BSM final's two goals came in the third period. The first came just 61 seconds into the final stanza when Mason Stenger scored on the power play and Podein, just over three minutes later, added his team-leading 17th goal of the season.

Ben Norris set up two of the Red Knights' first three goals, giving him 20 assists on the season.

The Red Knights had a 49-15 advantage in shots on goal with Mason McElroy stopping 14 shots to become the third BSM goalie in school history to record 50 career wins, joining Jake Schuman (51) and Carson Limesand (52).

With the win, BSM advances to face third-ranked Edina in a 4 p.m. game, Saturday, at the Bloomington Ice Garden.
