Mayer starts pro career after five seasons at Colorado College

Former Red Knight defenseman finishes 2023-24 season with ECHL's Utah Grizzlies.

Former Benilde-St. Margaret's defenseman, Connor Mayer, wrapped up his collegiate career and signed with Utah of the ECHL for the final five games of the regular season.

In 2015-16, Mayer recorded 10 goals and added 17 assists for 27 points. His most important contribution during BSM's undefeated regular-season run, was his 51 blocked shots, the second-highest total in school history since the stat has been kept, starting in 2007-08.

For those efforts, he was named Minneapolis Star-Tribune third-team all-metro squad.

He moved onto the USHL from BSM, playing seven games after his Red Knight career, followed by three seasons with Sioux City, Madison and Fargo, before matriculating to Colorado College, where he played five seasons for the Tigers.


Mayer recorded 10 goals and 27 points in his final season as a Red Knight, to go along with 51 blocked shots.


Mayer played 159 games during his collegiate career with Colorado College.

During his career, he saw action in 159 games he scored seven goals and 32 points. He played in all 37 games in 2023-24, helping lead the team to a 21-13-2 record, the Tigers' first 20-win campaign in 13 seasons.

He was also a four-time NCHC all-academic honoree, graduating with a degree in economics.

Mayer signed with Utah of the ECHL, April 2. He registered his first career point with an assist just 56 seconds into his first professional game and scored his first goal in his second game with the Grizzlies.
