Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys' Hockey

Benilde-St. Maragaret's took a three-goal lead through two periods with a trio of unassisted goals before holding off Irondale in the third period for a 3-2 win.

The scoring started when Zach Gionet gave the Red Knights a lead 10 minutes, 44 seconds into the game before Storm Sullivan scored a pair of second-period goals to give the visitors a 3-0 lead while holding a 31-3 advantage in shots on goal in the opening 30 minutes.

The hosts came to life in the third period and eventually outshot BSM, 10-7, pulling to within one goal of the lead with 7:09 to play in the game.

BSM spent 2:49 on the power play after that, including 1:11 of 5-on-3 power-play time, but managed just one shot on goal during that span but it was enough to keep the Knights at bay.

The Red Knights return to action tomorrow, hosting Moorhead in a 5 p.m. game at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center.
