Besse sets career goal-scoring record with five-goal outing.

Grant Besse's first goal of the game was a record setter. His second, third, fourth and fifth goals of the game ensured that Benilde-St. Margaret's would get back into the win column as the Red Knights posted a 7-1 win at Bloomington Jefferson.

The Jaguars had taken a 1-0 lead with five minutes, 40 seconds to play in the opening period. That lead last just 65 seconds.

Jack Glover gained possession of the puck in his own zone and his cross-ice pass found Besse streaking up the left-wing boards. After carrying the puck into the left faceoff circle in the Jefferson zone, Besse snapped a shot past the blocker of Jaguar goalie Grant Martens and, in the process, became BSM's career goal-scoring leader with the 88th of his career.

One goal, however, wasn't enough for the Red Knight junior, who has already made his college committment to Wisconsin. He and Glover hooked up for a power-play 3:36 into the second period to snap a 1-1 tie and after Jake O'Borsky put BSM ahead, 3-1, Besse proceeded to scored three consecutive goals in a span of 14:30 with linemate Dan Labosky assisting on all the goals.

Besse capped his five-goal outing with his seventh power-play goal of the season with 11:48 to play in the game.

Alec Anderson finished the scoring for the Red Knights, sending the game into running time with 3:17 to play.

The five-goal outing was the second of Besse's career and his 12th career hat trick. He now has 92 career goals in 73 games and 160 career points.

Anders Jecha turned in a solid performance in goal for BSM, stopping 19 of the 20 shots he faced to earn his 10th win of the season.

The Red Knights are back in action Saturday, returning to North Suburban Conference play with a 7:30 p.m. game versus Spring Lake Park at Fogerty Arena.
