Quale's relief effort spurs BSM comeback

Justin Quale turned in stellar relief effort, stopping all 14 Wayzata shots in the third period as eighth-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's overcame a pair of one-goal deficits to earn a 4-3 win over ninth-ranked Wayzata.

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Matt Halverson scored nine minutes, 12 seconds into the contest and they held that lead for just over 15 minutes.

BSM tied the game when Grant Besse scored from the right side of the net at 7:35 of the second period but it took the hosts less than a minute to regain the one-goal lead as Brock Sorenson's shot found its way through Anders Jecha's skates and Red Knight head coach Ken Pauly made the goaltending change at that point.

Less than two minutes later, at 10:19, T.J. Moore took a pass in the left circle from Christian Horn, fed a hard pass across the slot to Besse and the Red Knight scoring phenom slammed home his 35th goal of the season from the bottom of the right circle.

The goal set off a mini scoring spree for BSM, which found itself leading 4-2 less than four minutes later as Jack Glover buried a Horn rebound to give the visitors their first lead and, with 3:10 to play in the period, Horn capped a three-point night by taking a Dan Labosky pass and finding the back of the net.

Horn's goal forced the Trojans to call a timeout and, just 20 seconds later, Kevin Miller cut the lead to one goal but it was the only time they would get a puck past Quale.

Despite being outshot, 14-3, in the final period, BSM had dominated the second period and held a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal, finish the game with a 28-25 edge.

The Red Knights are in action again Wednesday when they take on Shattuck-St. Mary's in a 7:30 p.m. game at SSM Arena.
