Labosky, Besse reach career milestones in defeat

Shattuck-St. Mary's scored three times in the second period and it was enough to propel the Sabres past Benilde-St. Margaret's, 5-2.

The Sabres dominated the second period, outshooting the Red Knights 12-3, while scoring three goals in a seven-minute span to break open a close game.

Trailing 4-0 entering the third period, BSM got on the board quickly as Grant Besse scored on the power play just 19 seconds into the final stanza. Dan Labosky's assist on the goal was the 100th point of his career.

Besse struck again on the power with 3:44 to play in the game, recording his 100th career goal, to get his team to within two goals of the leader.

Hopes of continuing the comeback, however, were dashed with 1:28 to play when the Sabres got an empty-net goal to finish the scoring for the evening.

Anders Jecha stopped 32 of the 36 shots he faced on the night for the Red Knights.

BSM returns to North Suburban Conference play Saturday by playing host to Totino-Grace in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
