Moore notches 100th point in shutout win

T.J. Moore scored a pair of goals to reach the 100-point mark for his career and Benilde-St. Margaret's clinched it's seventh consecutive North Suburban Conference title with a 6-0 win over Totino-Grace.

The two teams skated through 15 minutes of scoreless hockey before Moore got the Red Knights on the scoreboard with one minute, 46 seconds to play in the opening frame and, in the process, became the fifth Red Knight to reach the 100-point career mark this season.

BSM got rolling late in the second period. After taking the 1-0 lead through nearly 10 minutes of the middle stanza, the Red Knights went on the power play at 9:53 and it took just four seconds from that point to double the lead as Moore won a faceoff in the right circle to Jack Glover.

Glover quickly moved the puck across to Christian Horn at the top of the slot and his shot was tipped by Dan Labosky through the legs of Eagle goalie Rory Davidson.

From there, it took less than a minute for Horn to make it a 3-0 lead and goals by Jake Horton and Moore in the final 3:21 of the period turned the game into a five-goal rout.

The Red Knights added one final goal and sent the game into running time with 6:13 to play when Horn scored his 18th goal of the season.

Grant Besse saw his nine-game goal-scoring streak come to an end but he collected three assists to extend his point-scoring streak to 29 games. His third assist was his 70th point of the season, moving into second on the school's all-time single-season scoring list, surpassing the 69 points posted by both Matt Bergland and Steve Zierke during the Red Knights' 2008 run to the state tournament.

Also adding to the victory was Glover's performance. After setting career highs in minutes played in each of his last two games, the sophomore defenseman chipped in by assisting on the game's first three goals.

Nearly overlooked by BSM's offensive output was the 15-save shutout performance by Justin Quale, who won his third consecutive game in eight days.

With the NSC title wrapped up, the Red Knights close out conference play Tuesday at Chisago Lakes. Faceoff at Chisago Lakes Arena in Lindstrom is scheduled for 7 p.m.
