Anthony Brask scored on a third-period penalty shot and Michael Blessing had a goal and two assists as Benilde-St. Margarets' junior varsity opened the season with a 4-2 win over St. Cloud Tech.

Tiger goalie Cameron Kiffmeyer kept the Red Knights at bay early, stopping the first nine shots he faced, but Blessing finally broke through at eight minutes, 58 seconds of the opening frame when he scored on his own rebound to open the scoring.

Matt Hansen's power-play goal, less than three minutes later, got Tech on the scoreboard and evened the score but Blessing set up John Kernan's goal with 51 seconds remaining in the opening period to give the hosts the lead for good.

The teams then battled through a scoreless second period before Blessing picked up his third point of the game with an assist on Sean O'Toole's goal, 4:02 into the final frame.

The Tigers got that goal back, and cut the lead to one goal, just 33 seconds later on a Trevor Waseth goal.

The visitors had a chance to even the score when they went on the power play with 6:32 to play in the game but, just 19 seconds after the Red Knights successfully killed the penalty, Brask got the puck behind Tech defense but was tripped as he went in on the breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot.

Brask started his penalty shot rush by drifting into the left faceoff circle before deking Kiffmeyer to the ice and lifting a backhand shot into the net to restore the two-goal lead.

After outshooting its guest, 12-3, in the first period, BSM was outshot in each of the final two periods but finished with a 26-19 advantage. Adam Clark earned the victory in goal, stopping 17 shots.
