Red Knights unable to overcome Pioneers' early lead.

Jack Lawton set up a late second-period goal and scored early in the third to get BSM to within a goal of Hill-Murray.

Hill-Murray scored three goals in the game's opening six minutes, 19 seconds, and held on for a 4-3 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret's in Saturday's junior varsity game.

The Pioneers held a commanding 20-3 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period. They had an 8-1 advantage when Matthew Safi put the team up 3-0 and the Red Knights only managed its second and third shots of the game in the final minute of the period while on the power play.

Hill-Murray went ahead 4-0 just 3:13 into the second period on a goal by Matthew Safi before the home team started rolling.

Will Duda finally got BSM on the scoreboard when he beat Trent Johnson from the right faceoff circle and, at that time, the Red Knights made a planned goalie change with Peter Thome replacing Jalen Long.

Thome would shutout the visitors the rest of the way to give his team a chance to get back into the game, which they did when Hill-Murray's Frank Seiler was whistled for head contact, a major penalty, with 2:53 to play in second period.

Matt Arnason cut the deficit to 4-2 with 38 seconds remaining in the middle stanza and, just 48 seconds into the third period, Jack Lawton, who set up Arnason's goal, got a pass from Jack Sims high in the slot and blasted a shot over Anderson's shoulder.

Johnson would go onto stop BSM's final seven shots on goal and lead his team to the win.

The Red Knights return to action, Thursday, for a 5:30 p.m. game versus Holy Angels at Richfield Arena.
