Red Knights' offense explodes in win over Stars

BSM posts 10-goal win over Holy Angels


Dan Labosky scored a pair of key goals early in the game and added two assists.

Chase Jungels got Benilde-St. Margaret's on the scoreboard early, Dan Labosky scored two keys goals to open the game up Spencer Naas continued to score goals as the trio led the Red Knights to an 11-1 rout of Holy Angels.

Jungels scored five minutes, 27 seconds into the game when he deflected a Patrick Graham shot, one of three assists for the Red Knight co-captain, and barely a minute later Grant Besse scored the 119th goal of his illustrious career.

The Stars were hanging on, trailing by two goals, when Mario Bianchi was whistled for cross checking with 36 seconds remaining in the opening period and Labosky, who set up Besse's goal, blasted a shot from top of right faceoff circle for his first goal of the season and a 3-0 BSM lead.

It took just 48 seconds into the second period for Jungels to pick up his second goal of the game, converting a pass from Naas, who collected the 100th point of his career on the goal.

Just 31 seconds later the Red Knights' third line got in on the scoring parade as Seth Chumley carried the puck off the left wing boards, into the faceoff circle and snapped a shot past Zach Mains.

Labosky's second goal came as he jumped off the bench at the end of a Holy Angels power play. Chris Hickok's pass off the left boards cross both blue lines before being picked up by Labosky, who proceeded to give his team a 6-0 less than six minutes into the second period.

Labosky then picked up his fourth point of the game when he once again set up a Besse goals, with 2:57 to play in the second period, and the Red Knights then scored again in the final minute of a period when Naas scored a 3-on-4 short-handed goal with 46 seconds remaining in the second stanza.

With the game in running time to start the third period, the final frame moved quickly and it took 8:05 for the Red Knights to add to their lead as Will Duda tallied his first varsity goal.

Naas got his second of the game on the next shift and Alec Baer's power-play goal with 5:57 to play finished the scoring.

Holy Angels finally got on the scoreboard with 2:44 to play in the game when Frankie Mork's power-play shot from the left point found its way into the back of the Red Knight goal to end BSM's shutout bid.

Fourteen of the Red Knights' 16 skaters got on the scoresheet with points, with Labosky and Jungels leading the way with two goals and two assists.

Andrew Sprang continued his strong play in goal for the BSM, stopping all 18 shots he faced before giving way to Paul Lundberg, who made his varsity debut, with 12:45 to play in the game.

The Red Knights are in action again, Saturday, as they play their final pre-Christmas home game of the year against Blaine, beginning at 7 p.m.
