Besse, Labosky, Naas combine for five goals in win over Maple Grove.

Andrew Sprang's 16 third-period saves helped seal the Red Knights' victory.

Spencer Naas recorded a hat trick, Grant Besse and Dan Labosky each had four points and Benilde-St. Margarets' top line accounted for all five Red Knight goals in a 5-1 win at Maple Grove.

With the high-scoring trio doing the work on one end of the ice, goalie Andrew Sprang did the work on the other end. After stopping 13 of 14 shots in the first two periods, he was stellar in the final 17 minutes of play, stopping all 16 Crimson shots.

Naas got the game's first goal on BSM's first power-play opportunity of the game when he deflected a pass from Besse, four minutes, 24 seconds into the contest.

With the assist, Besse tied Christian Horn's school record of 206 career points and it would take barely five minutes before he broke that record when he teamed up with Labosky to score his eighth goal of the season and 207th career points.

Maple Grove cut the lead in half before the intermission as Sam Valerius scored on the power play with 50 seconds to play in the opening frame.

Naas would score midway through the second period when he came rushing into the middle of the Crimson zone as the trailer on a 3-on-3 rush. Labosky passed him the puck from the left faceoff circle and Naas converted it for his 10th goal of the season.

The score remained 3-1 deep into the third period, which is when Sprang stood out for the Red Knights. He made several spectacular saves to keep the score at 3-1 until Besse was abled to score with 7:41 to play in the game.

With 4:18 to play, the Red Knights went on a major power play as Jake Abernathy was called for checking from behind and they would add one more insurance goal as Naas completed his second hat trick of the season by deflecting Labosky's shot from the right point with 1:21 to play in the game.

Maple Grove finished with a 30-27 edge in shots on goal, getting 10 of those shots while on the power play. BSM had just three power-play shots on goal, scoring on two of them.

Sprang's 29-save performance marked a season high for the senior netminder. He stopped the final 22 shots he faced in the game.

The Red Knights head north for two games this weekend, facing Duluth Marshall at Lakeview Arena, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Saturday, BSM will be in Hibbing for a 3 p.m. matinee with the Bluejackets.
