Red Knights record first shutout of season in win at Hibbing.

Jalen Long picked up his first victory of the season by shutting out Hibbing for two periods.

After winning just one of its first six games, the Benilde-St. Margaret's junior varsity celebrated heading into Christmas by completing a two-game road sweep by downing Hibbing, 7-0.

Mark Kaske extended his goal-scoring streak to five games with his second hat trick of the week and Jalen Long recorded his first goaltending win of the season in leading the Red Knight victory.

It took BSM nearly 10 minutes to get on track but they were able to do so on the game's first power play when Will Duda buried a pass from Zach Risteau with 5:44 to play in the opening period.

Despite holding a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal, it appeared as if the Red Knights would only lead by one goal heading into the first intermission with a one goal lead but Nick Gionet's shot from the left faceoff circle rebounded out to the top of the slot and Kaske was there to rifle home his ninth goal of the season.

Kaske's 10th goal came just 46 seconds into the second period as Matt Arnason's pass sent Risteau into the left side of the offensive zone. He skated into the left cirlce, dropped a pass for Kaske on the edge of the slot and BSM took a 3-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later, Kaske set up Arnason for the game's fourth goal and Brady Artwohl added a power-play tally with 4:44 to play in the period to give the visitors a 5-0 lead.

The game went to running time 51 seconds into the third period as Thomas Luedke dug the puck loose behind his own goal. Artwohl moved the puck along the boards to Jack Sims who gave him a quick return pass as he came out of the Red Knight zone and, from there, he skated diagonally through the neutral and wristed hom a goal from the top of the left circle.

Kaske completed his hat trick and the game's scoring, at the 6:38 mark of the period.

Long's first victory as a Red Knight came on 30 minutes of work as he stopped all eight shots he faced. Patric Rooney came on in the third period and stopped four shots to complete the shutout.

BSM returns to action after Christmas, Thursday, when its takes on Lakeville North in the Sports Authority Holiday Hockey Classic. Game time at the St. Louis Park Rec Center is slated for 10 a.m.
