Power play provides lift for Red Knights in win over Ponies.

Spencer Naas had a career-high five assists in the 6-2 victory.

Benilde-St. Margaret's had gotten just one power-play opportunity in its previous three games heading into the season finale.

Thanks in large part to a third-period major penalty on Stillwater, the Red Knights had nine power-play chances, converting four times en route to a 6-2 win which extended their winning streak to eight games.

BSM got off to a fast start as the Red Knights scored the first time they got the puck into the Ponies' zone. Spencer Naas found Even Fleming in the middle of the slot and, just 17 seconds into the game, Fleming's wrist shot found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The visitors got three power-play chances in the opening period and converted on the third chance as Naas moved the puck along the boards behind the Stillwater net to Besse on the right-wing boards.

From there, BSM's all-time scoring leader walked the puck into the middle of the right faceoff circle and snapped a shot over Colton Anderson's glove on the short side for a 2-0 lead.

Stillwater's Aaron Kasinak cut the lead in half with one minute to play in the opening frame and the score would remain that way into the third period.

The Red Knights got their five-minute power play at the 4:21 mark of the final stanza when Payton Hosch was give a major penalty for slashing and BSM wasted no time as a faceoff win by Naas resulted in Dan Labosky's shot from the right point which found its way through traffic 37 seconds into the power play.

Besse extended the lead to 4-2, two minutes later, when his shot from the bottom of the right circle beat Anderson again on the short side. Dan Labosky set up the goal and, in the process, became the first play in school history to record 50 assists in a season, breaking Chris Student's record of 49 assists, set in 2007-08.

BSM wasn't done with the five-minute power play, however, as Naas picked up his fifth assist of the game and Labosky raised his state-leading total to 51 on the season as T.J. Moore recorded his 17th goal of the season.

The power play finally came to an end at 9:21 and, eight seconds later, Zack Hale found the back of the net from the left circle as the Red Knight's third line contributed with Seth Chumley and Chris Hickok assisting on the goal.

BSM recorded 17 of its 34 shots on goal on the power play while 15 of Stillwater's 21 shots came during its seven power-play opportunities.

Andrew Sprang collected his 16th win of the season by turning in a 19-save performance.

BSM will now awaiting Sunday's announcement of Section 6AA seeds. The Red Knights' first playoff game will be a quarterfinal game, Thursday, at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
