Comeback bid falls short for Red Knights in loss to Cretin-Derham Hall

Red Knights suffer first loss of the season.

Benilde-St. Margaret's came from behind to tie the score early in the third period but Tony Barbato's goal, just 15 seconds after the hosts had tied score, gave Cretin-Derham Hall a 4-3 win.

The 12th-ranked Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game's opening 10 minutes before Pat Steinhauser's fourth goal of the season cut the lead in half with two minutes, 17 seconds remaining in the first period.

Gino Pitera scored the only goal of the second period, at the 11:38 mark, to give CDH a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.

BSM made it's move early in the final period as Brett Patterson scored just 35 seconds into the frame and Christian Horn's power-play goals at 4:55 tied the score.

The Red Knights held a 37-31 edge in shots goal with Jacob Meyers turning aside 27 shots in the loss.

BSM returns to North Suburban Conference action for its final league game of 2009 when the Red Knights face Chisago Lakes, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m.
