2 shorthanded goals were the difference for Hornets

The # 2 ranked Edina Hornets defeated the Red Knights 6 - 3 at Braemar Arena.  Braemar has not historically been a very kind place to BSM, and it wasn't very friendly to them last night.  The primary difference in the game was how each team's specialty teams performed.  Both squads had 2 power play goals on the evening, but the Hornets also scored 2 shorthanded goals.

Edina scored the only 2 goals of the first period.  Steven Fogarty had the first on the power play at 11:33.  Charlie Taft then found the back of the net shorthanded at 16:15.  Shots for the period were 8 - 7 in favor of the Red Knights.

Edina increased their lead to 3 - 0, just 1:49 into the second period on a power play goal by Michael Sit.  The Red Knights got on the board when Grant Besse's shot beat Edina netminder Connor Girard at the 12:04 mark.  Christian Horn had the assist.  Edina increased their lead to 4 - 1 with a goal by Brett Stolpestad with just 18 seconds left in the period.

The Red Knights had a high mountain to climb being down by 3 to start the 3rd period.  In about a 2 minute span, each team traded 2 goals each.  Brett Stolpestad increased Edina's lead to 5 - 1 with his second goal of the game and Edina's second shorthanded goal.  Grant Besse answered their goal about 1 minute later on the powerplay, with assists to Christian Horn and Brett Patterson.  Thirty five seconds later, Pat Steinhauser also scored on the powerplay, with assists going to Brett Patterson and Will Nelson.  The Red Knights had cut the lead to 5 - 3, but that was as close as they would come.  Twenty seconds after Pat's goal, Edina increased the lead back to 3, making the final score 6 - 3.  Shots for the game were 32 - 30 in favor of the Red Knights.
