Former Red Knight is Hobey nominee

Former Red Knight Matt Bergland (’08), currently playing for the Providence College Friars, has been selected as a Hobey Baker candidate.  Each year's winner is selected from a list of ten finalists who are picked through fan balloting through the Hobey Baker website.  A selection committee of college coaches, NHL scouts, media, on-ice officials, and the fan vote determine the winner.  This year's winner will be the 29th.

Hobey was the ultimate athlete of his day.  He entered Princeton in 1910 and was both a football and hockey captain.  He embodied (as do the winners of the award) sportsmanship, leadership, character and athletic skill.  He was a WWI flying ace who was killed in an air accident shortly after the war.  He is in the College Football Hall of Fame, Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame, and American Hockey Hall of fame.

Matt was nominated by his coaches for having Hobey-type traits on and off the ice, and added to the fan ballot after a determination that his statistics warranted consideration.  You can vote for Matt by clicking on the following link  vote for Matt for the Hobey Baker award.
