4 goals scored by defensemen in victory

Five seasons in the North Suburban Conference has added up to five conference championships for the Red Knights.  The team secured the 17th championship in Red Knight Hockey history with a 6 - 1 victory over the Irondale Knights at the Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine last Tuesday night.  BSM dominated the game by pouring over 50 shots on Irondale’s net and yielding less than 10 shots.

Sophomore Christian Horn got the team off on the right foot by scoring the game’s first goal shorthanded.  Senior Brett Patterson followed up quickly to make it 2 - 0 when he took a feed from goaltender Jacob Meyers and Grant Besse. Jake Horton scored the first of his 2 goals on a beautiful tip shot on the power play from Brett Patterson and Patrick Steinhauser.  Horton would repeat the feat in the second period, again on the powerplay from Brett Patterson and Christian Horn.  Junior defenseman Ryan Minkoff scored his first varsity goal in the third period on the powerplay from Grant Besse and Patrick Steinhauser to give the team more breathing room while Senior John Kernan scored his third goal of the season, with the assist to David Tranvik to account for the final score of 6 - 1.

While the game was never in doubt, it was an uninspired contest.  Irondale sought to clog the neutral zone and clog the front of the net in an effort to slow up the game.  Our failure to not put away the game on the power play allowed Irondale to remain in their shell and keep the score down.
