Former Red Knight headed east

Former BSM captain Brett Patterson ('10) has verbally committed to play hockey at Dartmouth College.

A co-captain for the Red Knights last season, he finished his career tied for ninth on the school's career assist list, with 72, and tallied 111 points in 82 career games.

As a sophomore, he scored 13 goals and 28 points as BSM finished third in the 2008 Class AA state tournament. His junior year, he led the team by talling career highs in assists (31) and points (45). He earned All-North Suburban Conference honors in each of his three varsity season.

This season, Patterson is playing for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United State Hockey League. He registered an assist in his first USHL game and is +1 with four shots on goal in the team's first three games of the season.

"I took a visit (to Dartmouth) this summer and fell in love with the campus," Patterson said. "My cousin played at Yale and I wanted to play in the Ivy League after hearing about his experience and the benefits of going to such a good school.

"Academics also played a huge role in my decision. I had interest from some other schools but, after I thought about it, I knew Dartmouth was the place for me. The facilities out in Hanover are incredible and the coaches really focus on skill-work and creativity, which benefits me."

"Whenever any our guys moves onto that next level, all of us share a great sense of pride in the accomplishment," Red Knight head coach Ken Pauly said. "Brett really has put in a lot of hard work the last few years so it’s nice to see his efforts rewarded.  He is a really highly-skilled player and the ECAC is a perfect conference for him to showcase his abilities."

Patterson will be the second BSM alum to don the jersey of the Big Green. Adam Estoclet ('07) is a senior this season at Dartmouth and is serving as an assistant captain for the Big Green.
