Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys' Hockey

Benilde-St. Margaret's junior goalie Ander Jecha has been honored by the St. Paul Pioneer Press as one of its athletes of the week after he helped the Red Knights garner two wins to open the 2010-11 campaign.

Jecha stopped 18 of 19 starts in last Tuesday's season opener, a 4-1 win over St. Cloud Tech. In the victory, he stopped nine of 10 shots in the second period, allowing just a power-play goal in recording his fourth career victory.

Saturday, Jecha started against a ranked opponent for the first time in his career, making the first back-to-back starts of his varsity career, and turned aside 22 of 23 shots as BSM knocked off seventh-ranked Hill-Murray, 3-1.

Again, it was a power-play goal which bested Jecha but he kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard in the opening period, stopping 10 shots in the first 17 minutes.

For the season, Jecha sports a 2-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. His career record is unblemished with five wins in five varsity starts.
