Christian Horn's six-point outing paces Red Knights.

Christian Horn registered a hat trick and six points and 12 different players scored points as Benilde-St. Margaret's opened the North Suburban Conference portion of its 2010-11 schedule with a 13-0 win over St. Francis.

"While a lopsided score like that really isn’t that much fun for either team, we take some positives away from the game," Red Knight head coach Ken Pauly said. "When you are a high-end team, you really should have the potential to score that many goals. It was good to see us realize that tonight.”

Although it took just over seven minutes for BSM to get on the scoreboard, the Red Knights would score 12 goals in just over 23 minutes after breaking the ice.

Six of those came from BSM's top line of Horn, Pat Steinhauser and Grant Besse. Steinhauser added a goal and four assists, extending his point-scoring streak to 22 games, while Besse scored twice, giving him five goals on the season.

Jake O'Borsky and T.J. Moore also contributed two goals to the win while Mike Blessing collected his first varsity goal, along with an assist, and Taylor Topousis registered his first varsity assist.

Lost in the offensive onslaught was the effort of Anders Jecha. Despite facing just 11 shots, he stayed focused during extended periods of inactivity and registered his second career shutout.

“It’s not easy for a goalie to pitch a shutout in games like that," Pauly said. "St. Francis had a handful of quality chances and it was good to see the team earn the goose egg.”

Winners of five consecutive NSC titles, the Red Knights take a break from conference play until after the new year. However, they start a string of six consecutive games against ranked opponents when they host the Marshall School, 10th in Class A, Saturday, at 2:30 p.m.
