Melin backstops victory with 27-save effort.

Benilde-St. Margaret's used a three-goal second period and rode goalie Isaac Melin's 27-save performance to a 5-2 junior varsity win at Holy Angels.

The Red Knights were in control throughout the first two periods, taking a 1-0 lead on Storm Sullivan's first-period goal and Seth Chumley padded the lead at the 3:35 mark of the second period.

Just 75 seconds later, however, the Stars cut the lead in half and started to rally before Robert Lance's goal the bottom of the right faceoff circle with 5:19 remaining in the middle stanza restored the two-goal lead.

A late power-play chance in the second period gave BSM another opportunity to add to the lead and, with 4.8 seconds on the clock, Chris Hickok's shot from inside the blue line found the back of the net to send the visitors into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead.

Holy Angels would go onto outshoot the Red Knights, 12-6, in the final period but it was a Joe Haselman goal, with 5:53 to play in the game, that gave BSM a late four-goal lead.

The Stars got a power-play tally from Nick Ryan with 2:59 to play but Melin's play, stopping three shots in the game's final 2:43 preserved the win.

The Red Knights return home Tuesday, after three weeks away from the St. Louis Park Rec Center, for a 5 p.m. game with Chisago Lakes.
