Horton's five-point night leads victory over 12th-ranked Spuds.

Jake Horton scored two goals, assisted three others and third-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's cruised to an impressive 6-1 win over 12th-ranked Moorhead.

The Red Knights wasted little time was Jake O'Borsky took a pass in the middle of the slot from Pat Steinhauser and beat Spud goalie Michael Bitzer between the legs just three minutes, 10 seconds into the contest.

Six minutes later, Dan Labosky won a faceoff in the left circle of the Moorhead zone and Horton ripped a shot from the top of the slot past Bitzer on his stick side.

With the opening period winding down and BSM on its second power-play of the game, Horton once again took a pass from Steinhauser and buried his 14th goal of the season with 11 seconds remaining in the opening period.

The lead jumped to 4-0 at 3:39 of the second period as Horton made a play along the left-wing board in his own zone. Christian Horn picked up the puck near his own blue line and skated the length of the ice, managing to get the puck past Bitzer while being taken to the ice.

Moorhead got its lone goal of the game on the power play at 11:05 of the middle frame when Eric Brenk's shot through traffice, on the power play, found its way past Red Knight goalie Justin Quale.

Horton picked up his fifth point of the night on the Red Knights' fifth goal as he and T.J. Moore combined to set up O'Borsky on the power play, 3:07 into the final period, and Grant Besse notched his team-leading 27th goal of the season with 2:36 to play in the game to finish the scoring.

BSM held a 33-24 advantage in shots on goal. Quale earned his seventh win of the season, without a loss, by turning aside 23 shots.

The Red Knights return home, Saturday, for a 7 p.m. non-conference game with Rochester Century.
