Rennie assists all three goals in loss to Spuds.

Benilde-St. Margaret's was held without a shot on goal in the first period and found itself trailing by three goals and a late comeback fell short in a 5-3 loss at Moorhead.

Outshot, 9-0, in the opening period, the Red Knights found themselves trailing by two goals heading into the first intermission.

A power-play goal, two minutes, 30 seconds into the second period, put the home team ahead 3-0 before BSM began to claw its way back into the game.

Seth Chumley's power-play goal at 4:49 of the middle period got the Red Knights on the scoreboard but Moorhead responded 78 seconds later to restore the three-goal lead.

Trailing 4-1 with 6:56 to play in the game and about to go on a power play, BSM called timeout and pulled goalie Isaac Melin for an extra attacker, a move which paid off as Zach Gionet converted a Brooks Rennie pass to cut the lead to 4-2 with 6:10 to play in the game.

The Red Knights would close to within one goal when Joey Winter scored on a goalmouth scramble with three minutes to play but a 4-on-3 power-play goal with 1:18 remaining in the game sealed the win for Moorhead.

The Spuds held a 36-19 advantage in shots on goal. Melin stopped 20 of 22 shots, but suffered the loss, after coming on in relief of Paul Lundberg, 5:49 into the second period. Lundberg made 11 saves.

BSM is home, Saturday, for a 5 p.m. game with Rochester Century.
