BSM co-captain becomes second Red Knight to make the cut.

Benilde-St. Margaret's senior defenseman and co-captain Patrick Daly was named one of 10 finalists for the Mr. Hockey Award by the Minnesota Minutemen.

Daly becomes the second BSM student-athlete to earn a spot as one of the 10 finalists for the award, following Blake Friesen, who was one of the 10 nominees in 2004.

After missing all but 10 games last season, Daly has rebounded in 2010-11 to lead the Red Knights with 31 assists and a +43 plus/minus rating through 21 games.

He recently made a verbal acceptance to a scholarship offer from the University of Wisconsin, where he will play hockey for the Badgers next season.

"Being nominated for Mr. Hockey is an incredible honor and I can’t think of anyone more deserving than Patrick Daly," Red Knight head coach Ken Pauly said. "He has already made his mark on BSM hockey and this places him in some rather elite company."

Daly is one of only two defensemen on the list of finalists, being joined by Edina's Max Everson. The other finalists are forwards Josh Archibald (Brainerd), Ben Bahe (Hill-Murray), Jonny Brodzinski (Blaine), Tony Cameranesi (Wayzata), Steven Fogarty (Edina), Garrett Hendrickson (Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl), Joseph LaBate (Holy Angels), and Kyle Rau (Eden Prairie).

The Mr. Hockey Award - which was founded in 1995 - is presented to the most outstanding senior hockey player in the state of Minnesota. The recipients are reviewed and selected by a group of National Hockey League scouts and Division I coaches.
