Shattuck-St. Mary's scored twice in the game's final three minutes, two seconds, and overcame an early deficit to defeat Benilde-St. Margaret's, 3-1.
The Red Knights came out with a lot of energy in the early going and got on the scoreboard first when Pat Steinhauser notched his 19th goal of the season at 7:27 of the first period.
BSM held onto that one-goal lead deep into the second period the Sabres finally broke though with 2:53 remaining in the middle frame when Tanner Sorenson knotted the score at 1-1.
Shattuck-St. Mary's turned up the pressure in the third period, outshooting its host, 16-6, over the final 17 minutes, but Anders Jecha kept the Red Knights in the game until Teddy Doherty turned a BSM defensive zone turnover into his sixth goal of the season and a 2-1 Sabre lead.
The visitors added an insurance goal with 1:08 to play in the game as Noah Henry flipped the puck out of the SSM zone, Nicholas Weberg picked up in the neutral zone.
He skated one-on-one with Red Knight defenseman Patrick Daly, who blocked Weberg's first shot attempt but the puck came directly back to him and he was able to get a second shot off which finished the scoring for the night.
The Sabres finished with a 39-21 advantage in shots on goal as Jecha finished with a career-high 36 saves.
BSM is home again, Saturday, for a 2:30 p.m. North Suburban Conference game with Irondale. Prior to the game, the Red Knights will honor their seniors during Senior Day.
