Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys' Hockey

The 2011 Section AA boys hockey seedings were announced this morning and Benilde-St. Margaret's garnered the third seed in the eight-team playoff field.

With that third seed, the 21-4-0 and fifth-ranked Red Knights will open Section 6AA play hosting 12-12-1 Robbinsdale Armstrong at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center, Thursday, at 7 p.m.

The top seed in the section went to second-ranked, 18-5-2 Eden Praire, which will host Minneapolis (19-2-4) Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the Eden Prairie Community Center.

Fourth-ranked and 18-5-2 Wayzata received the second seed and Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the Plymouth Ice Center, the Trojans will host Robbinsdale Cooper (14-11-0).

The final quarterfinal game pits seventh-ranked and 16-7-2 Minnetonka hosting Hopkins (11-14-0), Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the Pagel Activity Center.

The four quarterfinal winners will move onto Saturday's semifinals. The winners of the Eden Prairie-Minneapolis and Minnetonka-Hopkins quarterfinals will meet as will the winners of the Wayzata-Robbinsdale Cooper and BSM-Robbinsdale Armstrong games.

Times and locations of those semifinal games will be determined following the completion of the quarterfinal round. One of the semifinal games will be played at the Bloomington Ice Gardens while the other will take place at Braemar Arena in Edina.

The semifinal winners will meet Wednesday, March 2, at 8 p.m., at Mariucci Arena for the right to advance to the Class AA state tournament,  March 10-12, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
