Shibrowski earns trio of awards with Buccaneers

Former BSM netminder named Des Moines' MVP

Former Benilde-St. Margaret's goalie Mike Shibrowski earned three post-season awards at the Des Buccaneers post-season banquet recently.

The first award Shibrowski received was the Bob McCorkle Award, presented in memory of the former Buccaneer who died in a car accident in 1982. The award is presented to the player who demonstrates an outstanding level of sportsmanship and dedication the game of hockey.

He shared his second award, the Fan Favorite Award, with teammate Dajon Mingo. The Fan Favorite Award is presented to the Buccaneer player who fans have determined, through online voting and ballots, as their favorite Des Moines Buccaneer player of the season.

Shibrowski capped the awards ceremony by earning the team's Most Valuable Player Award, which is presented to the player who demonstrates outstanding on-ice performance with tremendous all-around leadership. The award is determined by the team.

Shibrowski was fourth in the United States Junior League in minutes played this season with 2595:46. He posted a 2.59 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.

Next season, Shibrowski will return to Colorado College of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. He played the second half of the 2009-10 season with the Tigers before returning to the junior hockey ranks.
